York and North Yorkshire education leaders have praised students collecting their A level results today for their hard work and dedication.

Cllr Bob Webb, City of York Council’s education lead, said: “Today is a great opportunity to celebrate the academic achievements of so many of our young people.

“And each set of results showcase the hard work and dedication of the young people, their support teams at home and school.

“But I also know that there will be some students who didn’t get the grades they needed or wanted today and to them I’d say don’t panic, this is just the start of the next step on your journey and people are here to help.

“Whatever your plans are for the future you can seek support locally and I would always encourage you to speak to your school or college first; they know you best and can provide bespoke support.”

Advice is also available for people considering apprenticeships or other employment opportunities, or for those wanting to move into full-time education.

People can find support in York from:

  • Their school or college. Staff will be able to support pupils with their next steps.
  • Careers Advisers employed by our schools
  • Admissions teams at York College and Askham Bryan College
  • National Careers Service – for local employment and training opportunities; or call the national help-line 0800 100 900
  • Council-led ‘York Apprenticeship Hub’ – go to www.york.gov.uk/yorkapprenticeships for local information or find us on Facebook @ York Apprenticeships; .
  • Specialist Learning and Employment Advisors who can support young people who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) or are in care of the Local Authority.

North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for education, learning and skills, Cllr Annabel Wilkinson, said: “Huge congratulations to the students across North Yorkshire who have received their A-Level and equivalent exam results today. I am incredibly proud of you all.

“We have high aspirations for every child and young person in North Yorkshire and by achieving these exceptional grades and qualifications, local students can look forward to the future, whether that is a university place, further education, an apprenticeship, training or employment.

“Thank you to all our teaching and school colleagues from across the county for their commitment and support in helping our young people towards success. The results are also a testament to them.”
