The editor in chief of US Vogue will be joined by another leading international journalist, Katharine Viner, The Guardian’s first female editor in chief.

They will be on the front row for The Northern York Fashion show at the University of York.

And the show will feature a rare Q&A session with Anna, giving an insight into her long career.

Showcasing six upcoming designers and eight northern design schools, the show takes place on Friday, January 29.

The night also aims to raise £50,000 to support good causes.

Leading filmmaker

BAFTA award winning film director Adam Curtis is also collaborating with the university to produce the show, with a number of student creative directors.

Students at the northern design schools have been challenged to create thought-provoking and innovative clothing, to be showcased on the catwalk.

Live music includes BBC Sound of 2016 nominee Billie Marten, a 17 year old folk singer, as the show focuses on the rich sub-cultural heritage of the North – “gritty, ambitious and full of life”.

“We wanted to host an event that would highlight the creative talent of students and support the community by fundraising for local charities,” said Ellie Wintour, one of the event organisers.

“It’s fantastic to have Anna and Katharine on board to help make it a success. We are pleased with the positive response we’ve had so far. It’s going to be a night to remember.”

After show party

A silent auction and raffle will be held on the night which will raise money directly for the charities:

  • The Xavier Project – works with urban refugees in Nairobi and Kampala to help create equal opportunities that may otherwise be denied to refugees
  • The Two Ridings Community Foundation and Refugee Action York – charities that work within the city of York to help empower individuals and rebuild lives.

The event has been organised by Hard magazine, a student-run fashion magazine at York University.

There will be an after-show party in partnership with BlackBox, a student events brand, that will feature Jack Savidge from Friendly Fires and Olugbenga from Metronomy doing a DJ set in Fibbers.

The two will also perform an exclusive track at the show, written especially for The Northern Youth.

Event sponsors include Grand Central, Harvey Nichols and make-up brand Bobbi Brown.
