This is Hitchcock like you’ve never seen it before!
Wise Children director Emma Rice is set to take on film legend Alfred Hitchcock – as she turns the Cold War conspiracy thriller North by Northwest on its head into a ‘riotously’ funny comedy.
Audiences can expect a quick-changing cast, a head-bopping 50s soundtrack, and a lot of hats.
North by Northwest is at York Theatre Royal from Tuesday 18 March to Saturday 5 April 2025.
It is adapted from the 1959 film, produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock that stars Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, and James Mason.
This will be the fifth collaboration between York Theatre Royal and Wise Children following productions of Malory Towers, Wise Children, Blue Beard and Wuthering Heights.
North by Northwest is a co-production with York Theatre Royal, Home Manchester and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse. It will have its premiere in York before embarking on a UK tour.
And the full cast has now been revealed. It will star Mirabelle Gremaud as Anna, Patrycja Kujawska as Eva Kendall, Simon Oskarsson as Valerian, Katy Owen as The Professor, Karl Queensborough as Philip Vandamm and Ewan Wardrop as Roger Thornhill.
The show follows reluctant hero Roger Thornhill, when a mistimed phone call to his mother lands him smack bang in the middle of a Cold War conspiracy. Now he’s on the run, dodging spies, airplanes and a femme fatale who might not be all she seems…
Tickets for North by Northwest start from £15 and are available via the York Theatre Royal website.
