Slow internet speeds are a thing of the past as York-based internet service provider has gone Fastr.

The clue is in the name, with the Nordic word ‘Fastr’ reflecting the ultrafast speed at which it will be delivering internet, whilst drawing upon the city’s Viking roots.

Fastr is the new name for UK Fibre Networks which first launched in 2019. It has connected hundreds of homes and businesses within the city walls, enabling download speeds of up to 452 times and upload speeds of up to 8,000 times faster than services currently available in the area.

The provider will continue to roll out it’s full fibre gigabit network, promising endless streaming, quick gaming, and growth and expansion for businesses.

Bringing broadband speeds of up to 8,000 Mbps over the next 12 months, it can be a game changer.

Owner of Mr Chippy and Fastr Broadband customer Andrew Pericleous said: “Joining Fastr Broadband meant we were able to expand our business and bring in additional revenue streams from Deliveroo, which now accounts for over 40% of our sales.

“Fastr has to be the way forward for York’s city centre businesses to operate smartly and efficiently in the digital age.”

The service is currently available in streets including: Black Street, Bootham, Church Street, Claremont Terrace, Colliergate, Coney Street, Coppergate, Gillygate, Goodramgate, High Petergate, Low Petergate, Lord Mayor’s Walk, Marygate, Stonegate, Swinegate, and Parliament Street.

The build will progress to other streets and areas in York, which will be announced shortly.

The Director of Fastr Broadband, Pete Evans, said: “These are exciting times for digital connectivity in York and we are thrilled to be at the heart of it. We are committed to delivering businesses and residents the fastest broadband they’ve never had.”
