A fierce blaze has gutted two vehicles in a York city centre car park.
The fire at Bootham Row car park ripped through a van and then set its neighbouring car alight.
At its height the flames gave off a fierce heat and thick black smoke filled the air.
Both vehicles have been gutted. But quick action by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service meant that the blaze didn’t spread to neighbouring cars in the packed car park.
Leon Dumont is the owner of the neighbouring car, a red Ford. It was flecked with ash but otherwise seemed undamaged.

Leon, an artist, and his daughter Esme, 11, had come into town from their home in Osbaldwick. After visiting the art gallery and doing some shopping they returned to find the aftermath of the blaze.
“As soon as I saw it around the corner, I became very aware that our car was quite close to this, this incident,” Leon said.
“But the remarkable thing is, the incident is finished, and it looks like we might have had the luck.”

Firefighters went to the blaze at 2.47pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from York responded to a report of a vehicle on fire.
“On arrival crews found two vehicles on fire. Crews used two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire that resulted in fire to both vehicles.”
