Fire crews attended a blaze in North Yorkshire, which is believed to have been caused by a “guilty dog”.

The fire was confined to the cooker and caused smoke damage to the kitchen of the Scarborough home.

It’s thought that the family dog jumped up at the cooker and accidentally turned on the hob, which then ignited the items left on it.

The alarm was raised by neighbours after hearing smoke alarms activate.

Scarborough and Filey crews responded to the report, they used breathing apparatus as it was initially unclear as to whether the occupants were inside the home.

No humans were found inside, but fortunately, the dog and one cat were rescued unharmed by firefighters.

The crews extinguished the fire and ventilated the premises.
