Firefighters rescue paralympian after cycling accident

North Yorkshire firefighters have rescued a paralympian after a cycling accident in Nidderdale.

It happened on a steep climb much favoured by professional cyclists.

Firefighters were called to the incident on Trapping Hill, Lofthouse at 11.56am.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from Lofthouse have been called to assist a paraplegic paralympian in an adapted recumbent bicycle who had overturned while descending a steep hill after the tyre popped off the rim.

“The crew transferred the man to a local farmer’s vehicle who then returned him to his adapted van.

“The man then returned to the scene where crew were able to secure his bike in his vehicle.”
