First look: Inside The Old House, York’s brand new restaurant and bar

Welcome to York’s newest food and drink experience.

The Old House on Low Petergate opens tomorrow (Thursday, 6 February) and we’ve had an early look round to mark your card.

Found in what was the Wagyu Bar and Grill, which opened a year ago, The Old House has a completely new look thanks to an £80K refurbishment.

The second of its kind – the first is well established in Hull – the restaurant is part of the Shoot The Bull business which runs the restaurant at the Hull Truck Theatre among other venues.

Just like Wagyu, the menu features Warrendale beef from Pocklington, alongside rare breed beef from Thirsk.

The food and drink

Put together by chef Chris Harrison the menus are described as being “packed with freshly prepared dishes created with locally sourced ingredients”.

On the a la carte menu you’ll find dishes like 36hr Slow Cooked Pork Belly (£16.50), Game & Chicken Suet Pudding with locally-shot pheasant and partridge (£14.90), and Old House Fish and Chips (£12.50).

For early starters, the Yorkshire Breakfast including rare breed pork sausages is £9. And the bar menu includes dishes such as a ‘Posh’ Fish Finger Sandwich for £7 and Wagyu Flat Iron Steak Sandwich & ‘Cracked’ Fries for £13.50.

At the bar there are 10 craft beers, cask ales, more than 20 speciality spirits, artisan gins and a selection of wines and bottled beers.
