Work to transform York’s old fire station into luxury apartments is all but complete, and developer Helmsley Group has revealed the first seven.
Some even have an outdoor space overlooking Clifford’s Tower (or York Magistrates’ Court if you look the other way…)
Prices for the homes start at £675,000, which will be too hot to handle for a lot of residents.
Key characteristics from the building’s past have been retained, including its façade which dates back to its use as a chapel in 1856.
The fireman’s pole has also been reinstalled in the building and the building’s external door handles are comprised of the metal from the nozzles of Victorian fire hoses.
Retain the building’s spirit
Each of the apartments will feature kitchens by House of Harrogate and bathrooms from Laufen, the Swiss designers.
Helmsley Group spend two years developing the site, in conjunction with London Ebor Developments and contractors, Caddick Construction.

Previous plans to include a restaurant at the fire station site have been shelved.
Instead the commercial space will be leased to “an expanding local company”.
