This is what a new five-storey hotel to be built in the city centre could look like.
A new Moxy Hotel is set to be built on the former Haymarket Car Park behind the 15th century Black Swan pub and next to the Hiscox building on Peasholme Green.
A planning application has been submitted for two violet LED signs to be installed on the 119-bedroom hotel.
The images show a glass atrium at the L-shaped building with and internal timber structure, called Shambles in the planning documents.

As the light will be violet, the signs will appear significantly less bright than a white light with the same level of illumination.
The location of the hotel is within a primarily commercial area and there are no residential properties which would be affected by light from the signs.
Planning permission was granted for the building in November 2017. Before the scheme was given the green light, a series of members of the public lodged objections at City of York Council, many of them deeply concerned about the visual impact on the historic Black Swan pub.

And the architects said the hotel will help to reinvigorate the area.

The design respects the character of important heritage and landmark buildings close to the site with a distinctive architectural composition that maintains the visual clarity of buildings in the group.
The proposal will therefore make a positive contribution to the setting of an important heritage asset and the evolution of a distinctive local environment.
The building has been configured to respond to an eclectic townscape setting and is modelled to successfully reconcile significant scale transitions between adjacent buildings on all sides.
