York’s expanding music scene mean there are numerous exciting music gigs happening in and around our city.
And this month has some great gigs – here are some not to miss.
The Best Of Bowie
The Best of Bowie, at York Barbican on 5 March, is a must for anybody who is a fan of music icon David Bowie. Featuring Bowie’s former producer and bassist, Tony Visconti, alongside a live band (Holy Holy) they will perform Bowie’s greatest hits.
Visconti worked with Bowie throughout his entire career, playing on his first two albums and then producing ten of his albums. The band also features Bowie’s long-time friend Glenn Gregory. Having personal touches, such as featuring those who knew Bowie, will offer an even more intimate experience for the audience. This gig has been rescheduled from April 2021; tickets are available here.
Showaddywaddy
A name that is also gracing the Barbican on the 4 March is recognisable across the nation: Showaddywaddy. The band’s career began in the 1970s when they instantly shot to fame from their catchy revival hits and are still loved by their fanbase to this day.
During their 2022 tour, the band will sing all their hits live, including their number ones. Tickets are available for Showaddywaddy here.
Blair Dunlop
Blair Dunlop, who has recently featured in MOJO Magazine, is scheduled to perform at indie venue The Crescent on 6 March. Q Magazine called him the “vital bridge between Brit folk’s first and latest flowerings” and his debut EP has also now been declared as a collector’s item.
He will also have the support of fellow folk singer, Ellie Gowers. If you are into folk music, then this is the gig for you! Tickets are available here.
Trash Boat
Rock band Trash Boat are taking over The Cresent on 15 March for the first time, presented by Futuresound and Slam Dunk. The band have been together since 2014 and released their most recent album ‘Don’t You Feel Amazing’ last summer, which was described by Kerrang as “big and bold even when conveying vulnerability”.
Trash Boat have racked up more than 250,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and are a rock band to look out for. Tickets are available here for their show-stopping gig.

Supersuckers
Supersuckers are another rock band that are promising an electrifying gig at The Cresent on 21 March. The American-based band formed in 1988 have released music that goes from alternative rock to country punk. Their sound is said to be unique, so they are a must-see band. Tickets are available here.
