A car carrying five teenagers has been involved in a high-speed head on collision with another car early today.

It happened in the village of Towton on the A162 near Tadcaster just before 1am (Friday 30 July).

A Ford Fiesta hit a parked VW Polo and a garden wall.

The driver of the Fiesta has been interviewed under caution and remains under investigation.

Firefighters from Tadcaster, along with police and ambulance crews, were called to deal with the accident.

They worked together to treat the casualties at the scene and make vehicles safe.

The driver, a male aged 17, and four girls all aged around 16, were taken to hospital. Although some injuries are serious, none are believed to be life-threatening.

Police sealed off the main A162 road while an investigation into the incident was underway.

Station manager Bob Hoskins of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue told YorkMix that because of the speed at which the impact happened, the crash could have been much more serious.

Please contact North Yorkshire Police via email to Richard.harrison@northyorkshire.police.uk or call 101 and pass information for incident number 12210170836
