Floodwater is causing problems on the roads around York and Ryedale today (Monday, 11 December).

Humberside Police said at 10.51am: “Road closures are currently in place on the A166 and A1079 near to Kexby due to flooding.

“Members of the public are advised to avoid the area.”

Drivers are reporting being stuck on the A1079 for more than an hour.

At Stamford Bridge, police closed the bridge itself this morning as the Derwent water flooded the road. Buses are being diverted:

⚠️SERVICE ALERT – 10⚠️

🕐 Due to water at Stamford Bridge, this service will divert via Dunnington, Common Road, A1079, Long Lane, High Catton Road & Battleflats.

🚏 All stops will be observed.

We certainly apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The bridge at Cawood has now been closed due to rising water levels. It means there will be no 42 bus service from Cawood or Wistow until it reopens.

The bridge in Tadcaster remains closed today with the Wharfe still high. County bridge in Malton is closed.

There is also flooding on the roads in Naburn village.

In Norton, the Norton Matters Facebook page has this update:

“Norton Road will be closed to vehicular traffic due to flooding issues there. This follows a request from North Yorkshire Police.

“Highways will now close Norton Road between Asda and County Bridge. Norton Road will remain open for pedestrians to use.

“The diversion for vehicles will be via Old Malton, A64, Scarborough Road Norton and vice versa.”

The Ship Inn, Acaster Malbis is closed today due to a “rapid rise in water”.

The owners said: “Sorry for any inconvenience caused. We will continue to monitor the levels and hopefully be back open tomorrow.”
