The assault took place at around 7.50pm on Saturday, October 4, on Huntington Road near the roundabout with Monkgate.
Police say the 15-year-old girl was inappropriately touched by a man who pulled her towards him. However, she managed to break free.
The suspect, a black man, is described as:
- aged in his late teens
- skinny
- with short braided hair.
He was wearing a cream coloured jacket and was carrying a backpack.
Detective Inspector Alan Rowan, of York CID said: “If you were in the Huntington Road area around the time of the incident, and believe you recognise the description of the suspect, I urge you to come forward and contact the police straight away.”
