Gastronomes gather round – the Good Food Guide has just published its 100 best local restaurants in Britain for 2025.
And four are in North Yorkshire!
The judges say: “From almost 60,000 nominations, we’ve chosen 100 of the most compelling, confident, community-focused restaurants, bistros and wine bars that turn out cooking as wonderful as the warmth of their welcome.”
Here are their picks from our neck of the woods. You can read the full list on the Good Food Guide website.
Black Wheat Club

52 Fossgate, York
What the judges say: “Originally, they opened for brunch, with coffee, pastries and more substantial dishes served with their wonderfully damp sourdough or a soft morning bun… More recently, they have extended into the evening with a diverse menu that ranges from delicate cheese and potato pierogi with brown sage butter, sour cream and crispy fried sage (an outright winner) to tender 12-hour roast pork, topped with celeriac and a leek and lovage sauce.”
Skosh

98 Micklegate, York
What the judges say: “Neil Bentinck took York by storm when he arrived in 2016 and started serving exciting, inventive modern dishes with a pan-Asian twist. Since then, he has barely put a foot wrong, earning Skosh something of a cult following – scoring a table means booking well in advance.”
The Waterside
Chainbridge, The Carrs, Ruswarp, North Yorkshire
What the judges say: “If location is everything, then Chloe and David Ellis have it all. After making a big hit with Pizza West in Whitby, they have created a beautiful indoor/outdoor restaurant on an idyllic stretch of the river Esk… [The menu] is seasonal, local and deceptively simple.”
The Nettle, Settle
17 Market Place, Settle
What the judges say: “Bang in the middle of town and open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, the Nettle is the kind of happy, relaxed place where you can take your kids and dogs – but bring an appetite, too. Breakfast includes the standard granola/berries/avo on toast offer, plus a Nettle fry-up, while brunchers head for the shakshuka or chicken jalepeño hash with fried eggs.”
