A 10 year old fundraiser extraordinaire cycled his way through York on Friday (16 August), as part of his bid to raise £30,000 for the animal charity, Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital.

Harry Peksa is cycling more than 2,300 miles alongside his dad Nick, 47, on a journey from Land’s End, to John O’Groats, and back again. This is a route known as LEJOGLE.

After cycling Land’s End to John O’Groats at age 8, and the reverse journey aged 9, this is his toughest leg yet.

Harry, from Berkshire, decided to start fundraising in 2020 after discovering his new found friends, hedgehogs, could soon become extinct.

Through sponsored cycle rides, bake sales, growing plants, and selling homemade art and decorations, Harry has managed to raise over £20,000 for Tiggywinkles.

After raising money for the last four years, Harry would ‘absolutely love’ to get the total to £30,000.

During the course of the bike ride, Harry has stopped off in various locations to meet Scout groups, and on Thursday (15 August) met with the Hillside Scouts, Cubs, and Beavers at Borrowby Scout Hall.

When asked what the toughest part of the journey has been so far was, Harry replied “the hills”, and his favourite, of-course, “the downhills.”

As to why he’s doing the route again, Harry joked “because I opened my mouth on TV”, he then added “I just wanted a bigger challenge to do.”

Harry’s Dad, Nick, posts regular updates on their Facebook page, including route plans, daily roundups, and photographs of the pair.

Friday marked day 39 out of 54 days planned for LEJOGLE, with the trip drawing to a close just in time for Harry to return back to school.

Good luck to both Harry and Nick for the remainder of their bike ride.
