A store is set to move into an empty unit on Coney Street – and it will be very familiar to city shoppers.
Number 12A on the York street has been empty since sweet shop Sugarize closed in September.
But it will soon be turned into a branch of men’s fashion brand Lambretta.
That name is well know to York residents, as it has been trading in the city centre for eight years.
Lambretta opened in the distinctive store at the corner of High Ousegate and Spurriergate in March 2016.
Inspired by the Sixties mod movement, the chain sells men’s clothing, footwear and accessories.
The store has just moved out of High Ousegate. But the owners told YorkMix they won’t be out of the city centre for long.
A Lambretta spokesperson said: “We are moving just round the corner to 12a Coney Street, what was Sugarize, next to Starbucks.
“Our lease came to an end on our current unit which is why we’re moving.
“We’ve got a bigger unit on the main shopping street in York so we can’t wait to get in there and get open!”
They haven’t confirmed an opening date yet, but said it should be within the next couple of weeks.
Sugarize was a new concept – a digital pick’n’mix sweet shop. It opened in June last year but only lasted six months.
