Here’s why the York Pride parade isn’t starting from the Minster this year

York Pride is back this Saturday (7 June) – and the parade is starting from a new location this year.

York Pride is North Yorkshire’s largest LGBTQ+ celebration and York’s biggest free one-day festival.

One of the unmissable parts of the event is the parade from the city centre to the Knavesmire, which normally sets off from outside York Minster.

This has led to striking photographs and video of the rainbow banner and open-top bus leading the procession against the backdrop of the West Front of the Minster.

But in 2025, the parade will assemble on Parliament Street.

Take a look at our map to see the parade route for 2025.

“We have updated the start position of the parade this year to be inside the counter terrorism bollards,” explained York Pride chair, Greg Stephenson.

“This ensures we keep the assembly of the parade as secure as possible and is a result of our discussions with counter terrorism policing and the York Safety Advisory Group.”

The parade will assemble on Parliament Street from 11.30am before departing for the Knavesmire at 12pm.

You’ll also spot the YorkMix Bus on Parliament Street, with our very own Victoria Charles – come and say hello if you see us!

The route will wind through the city centre and along Bishopthorpe Road, and is expected to arrive at the Knavesmire at approximately between 1-1:30pm.

The festival at the Knavesmire will feature a fantastic line-up of live music and entertainment, with headliners Angels of the North and performances from La Voix, Kerry Ellis, The Cheeky Girls, Marcus Collins, Eva Iglesias, Pet Shop Boys, Actually, Janice D, and Ryan Petitjean.

YorkMix will also be hosting the Cabaret Stage – featuring drag, live vocals, comedy and spoken word performances.

There will also be a huge variety of food and drink, community and shopping stalls to browse through.

York Pride is a family fun day full of celebration and community spirit. To find out more about the day, visit the York Pride website.
