The Wellbeing Festival at Dalby Forest was full of fun, colour and challenges – as girls from all over North Yorkshire came together for a “10/10 event”.
Written by Jennifer Starkey, Alyssa Shaw, Matilda Griffiths, Ella Woodhouse, and Lily Anderson – pupils at George Pindar School and YorkMix multimedia journalists for the day.
The day was jam packed with fun games and activities varying from inflatable assault courses to bracelet making and, of course, the star of the show: the Colour Run.
Hundreds of young girls from ages 11 and over, came to Dalby Forest to try out new and exciting activities and make fun memories that will last a lifetime.
The Wellbeing Festival, organised by North Yorkshire Sport, made its annual appearance on Thursday 5 June 2025 with much rain.
The girls were prepared for the sun, but they still made the most of the damp morning filled with activities such as learning circus skills from Circus Stu and Kinball – which got their hearts pounding and energy levels rising, getting them pumped for the rest of the day.
Although the day seemed to be full of fun activities, the wellbeing event has a much more important meaning. It is made to make young students feel included and a sense of belonging to a non-judgemental place where they can be their true selves.
Dalby Forest is the perfect place for this event to be hosted as it provides a peaceful environment where they can connect with nature; everyone can express their true identity and be encouraged to have more confidence in themselves and with each other.
Some girls attending may struggle with mental health issues but coming to the Wellbeing Festival provides them with a sense of community, and that they should never feel alone as many people are in the same position and there are many people who they can talk to.
Throughout the event, we talked to many girls about their impressions of the day. Many girls were looking forward to “running the colour run” so they could “get colourful.”
Clearly, the colour run was the star of the show! Absolutely everyone enjoyed themselves but why wouldn’t they? It was fun-filled, friendship-packed and colour galore! People even went back to get covered in even more paint– not that they weren’t already covered from head to toe…
And the changeable weather didn’t dampen any spirits. “Everybody’s turned up – the weather’s a little bit grim but people have got a smile on their face and bringing really good energy.”
The day was full of fun and happiness and everyone felt much more confident and proud of themselves from what they achieved in the day. The reason for the day is so important and we can’t wait for next year!
