An inquest has heard how hospital staff fought to save the life of Katie Rough but were unable to resuscitate her.
At a short hearing in the West Offices HQ of City of York Council, York coroner Rob Turnbull formally opened the inquest into the death of seven-year-old Katie, from York.
The only witness was Det Insp Mark Pearson of North Yorkshire Police. He gave a brief statement about the circumstances of the death.

He told the inquest:
There they found Katie Sharon Rough with severe injuries.
She was taken to York Hospital where, despite the best efforts of staff there, she could not be resuscitated. Death was confirmed at 17.45 the same day.
She was subsequently identified by her father Paul Rough. A person has been charged in connection with Katie’s death.
Mr Turnbull said that the inquest would be adjourned “pending the outcome of those court proceedings”.
A girl, aged 15, has been charged with Katie’s murder and remanded in secure youth accommodation.
