A man with a knife who threatened a woman during a ‘nasty violent incident’ in York has been arrested and charged.
It happened at about 3pm on Monday in the city centre.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “A male was arrested for assault and threats to kill in a particularly nasty violent incident involving threats with a knife being made towards a female.
“Following a chase, he was arrested and on search of his bag the knife was recovered. His behaviour continued in custody – he went on to assault a police officer and damaged his cell.”
The man has been charged with assault, possessing a blade in a public place, threats to kill, assaulting a police officer and criminal damage.
It was one of a number of arrests in York city centre in the last few days.
Another man with a knife was arrested at about 6pm on Monday after shouting in the street and making threats to knock people out.
A man who allegedly punched three people outside a York pub early this morning (Thursday) has also been detained.
Another man was arrested early this morning on suspicion of grevious bodily harm, cocaine possession and street violence.
And at lunchtime, officers patrolling in York “stumbled across two persons responsible for quite a nasty robbery, suspects we hadn’t yet identified from images”. They have been detained.
On Tuesday evening, police community support officers spotted a man wanted for a burglary in Bishopthorpe.
They “chased him and pinned him to the floor to await officers to arrive”. The suspect has now been charged.
And a suspected shoplifter was “woken from his bed and arrested” at 5am on Monday.
