A large-scale police incident occurred in York city centre yesterday afternoon (26 July) and a man was arrested.
The incident took place outside Slug and Lettuce on Low Ousegate, where large crowds of racegoers had gathered.
Several police officers and approximately eight police vehicles responded to the scene. As a result, both pedestrians and motorists were turned away and redirected from Ouse Bridge.
A member of the public told YorkMix, “There’s been an incident at Slug and Lettuce, not sure exactly what but they closed the bridge.”
The witness, at around 10:40pm last night, later added, “I think it’s reopened now, not sure if it’s too serious but I heard three people were arrested.”
North Yorkshire Police have been contacted for a comment. The article will be updated as more information comes in.
