Large store plans to move into two recently vacated shops in York

They only closed last month.

But the former Accessorize and Space NK shops on Davygate in York won’t be empty for long, it seems.

The neighbouring shops are set to be converted into one large store, with a new frontage.

Units 9 and 11 would be turned into a Beaverbrooks, while unit 13 is set to be a TAG Heuer shop.

Beaverbrooks is a family-owned jewellery company. Founded more than 100 years ago, it now operates 69 stores across the UK.

Swiss watch maker TAG Heuer describes itself as “the ultimate reference in luxury chronograph watches”.

Planning documents state: “In simple terms, the proposals involve the creation of a new shopfront across the full frontage of the site, with the new development involving a more secure shopfront which meets the insurance requirements of a high-end jewellery store.”

Security glazing would be installed to combat theft.

“Of particular significance is the use of two additional mullions on the central window to break up the otherwise large single glass pane in the present shopfront.

“This not only helps make the new window more secure but also introduces a harmonious rhythm across all three units – an improvement over the present arrangement,” documents state.

“Of particular note is that the new shopfront, despite being for a high-end jewellery store does not involve the provision of any external security screen, relying on the use of the ‘Anti-Bandit’ glazing system.”

It is the latest high-end jewellery store planned for York.

We revealed earlier this month that a Breitling store, selling luxury watches, is set to take over the former Halifax bank, also on Davygate.

It would be next door to the new Mappin & Webb jewellery store which is due to open soon in the former Debenhams unit.
