Monday update: York coronavirus case rate starts to rise

Another 434 coronavirus cases were confirmed in York today (Monday, 7 March) – including the weekend figures.

That takes the cumulative case total to 55,725 – giving an overall infection rate of 26,408.5 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 949 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – up 252 (36.2%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 337.4 new cases per 100,000 people (712 cases in the week to 3 March).

The English national average is 313.4, the Yorkshire and Humber average is 231.

The dashboard is showing 69 coronavirus deaths in the City of York Council area in the last seven days (down 24) – we’ve now got confirmation from City of York Council that this figure is wrong and due to a glitch in the website.

That takes the cumulative case total to 55,291 – giving an overall infection rate of 26,202.8 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 771 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – down 20 (-2.5%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 322.3 new cases per 100,000 people (680 cases in the week to 28 February).

The English national average is 296, the Yorkshire and Humber average is 217.6.

Case rates by age: Case rates in York are currently highest in the following age ranges: 35-39 (561 per 100,000); 40-44 (493); 30-34 (490) and 45-49 (459).

Positive tests: As at 28 February, the seven-day positivity rate in York (all Pillar 2 tests) was 24.5% (it was 19.2% last week). The national and regional averages are 20.4% and 19.8% respectively. The latest 7 day positivity rate in York for Pillar 1 tests only is 1.9% (it was 2.5% last week). The national average is 3.5%.

Cases in care homes: As at 2 March there were 8 care homes in the City of York Council area with confirmed Covid-19 infection (at least 1 case of either a staff member or resident). There were 7 care homes affected last week. The latest ‘outbreak’ (2+ cases) in a residential care setting was reported in one homes on 2 March.

Cases among children: In the seven days up to 28 February there were 70 children of primary and secondary school age who tested positive across 29 schools, down from 149 children last week.

Deaths: In the ONS data up to 18 February, 464 coronavirus-related deaths were recorded as having occurred for York residents (28- in hospital, 144 in care homes, 32 at home/elsewhere and eight in a hospice). That’s up two on the previous week. The number of deaths per 100,000 of population in York is 219.9 – which is lower than the national average of 279.2.

Covid bed occupancy: As at 1 March, there were 112 confirmed Covid-19 patients in General and Acute beds at York Hospital – up from 79 at the last update (17 February). The peak number was 157 on 19 January 2021. There was one confirmed Covid-19 patient in the Intensive Treatment Unit, the same as last week.

Vaccinations aged 16+: As at 2 March, 158,728 York residents have had the first dose of the vaccine (89.0% of people aged 16+); 152,015 have had both doses (85.3%); and 126,113 have received the booster vaccine (70.7%).

Vaccinations aged 12-15: As at 2 March, 5,884 York residents in this age group have had the first dose of the vaccine (70.2%); and 2,936 have had both doses of the vaccine (35.0%).

Monday update: Total coronavirus deaths at York NHS Trust reaches 800

Another 256 coronavirus cases were confirmed in York today (Monday, 28 February). That includes all the cases recorded over the weekend.

It takes the cumulative case total to 54,776 – giving an overall infection rate of 25,958.7 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 697 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – down 242 (-25.8%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 388.1 new cases per 100,000 people (819 cases in the week to 24 February).

The English national average is 353.5, the Yorkshire and Humber average is 258.9.

There have been two coronavirus deaths in the City of York Council area in the last seven days (no change).
