York and North Yorkshire coronavirus updates: An announcement

A 3D model of coronavirus created by University of Glasgow scientists

YorkMix has taken the decision to bring our daily coronavirus updates to an end.

It means our last daily bulletin on the figures for Covid-19 in York and North Yorkshire was published on Friday.

The decision is based on a number of factors, including:

  • the reduction in the accuracy of figures for Covid cases, given the end of mandatory testing
  • the significant decrease in other key metrics, including hospital admissions and deaths
  • and the diminishing demand for the service.

YorkMix has offered a daily update on coronavirus figures for York and North Yorkshire for most of the pandemic.

We took the decision to publish a daily bulletin – seven days a week, including on Christmas Day and other bank holidays – to give a trusted source of information on the progress of the pandemic in the local area.

By creating a one-stop-shop for the latest information, we hoped the updates would act as a useful counterpoint to any unfounded claims or rumours, and help people make informed choices with regard to keeping themselves and others safe.

The end of the daily updates do not spell the end to our coverage however. We plan to publish a weekly update and other stories as and when they arise.

Thank you to all the readers who have got in touch to offer their suggestions and responses to the updates over the last couple of years.
