Wednesday update: 2,000 York residents test positive for Covid within a week

A further 350 coronavirus cases were confirmed in York today (Wednesday, 23 March).

That takes the cumulative case total to 59,702 – giving an overall infection rate of 28,293.2 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 2,024 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – up 430 (27%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 851.1 new cases per 100,000 people (1,796 cases in the week to 19 March). It was 842.1 yesterday.

The English national average is 820.6, the Yorkshire and Humber average is 616.4.

There have been three coronavirus deaths in the City of York Council area in the last seven days (no change). The total number of deaths in the city is 459.

That takes the cumulative case total to 59,026 – giving an overall infection rate of 27,972.8 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 1,867 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – up 433 (30.2%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 807.5 new cases per 100,000 people (1,704 cases in the week to 17 March). It was 691 on Friday.

That takes the cumulative case total to 58,238 – giving an overall infection rate of 27,599.4 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 1,745 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – up 543 (45.2%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 691 new cases per 100,000 people (1,458 cases in the week to 14 March). It was 668.2 yesterday.

Case rates by age: Case rates in York are currently highest in the following age ranges: 35-39 (1,009 per 100,000); 40-44 (977); 50-54 (977) and 30-34 (966).

Positive tests: As at 14 March, the seven-day positivity rate in York (all Pillar 2 tests) was 32.0% (it was 25.1% last week). The national and regional averages are 34.5% and 31.2% respectively. The latest 7 day positivity rate in York for Pillar 1 tests only is 4.1% (it was 2.3% last week). The national average is 5.9%.

Cases in care homes: As at 16 March there were 17 care homes in the City of York Council area with confirmed Covid-19 infection (at least 1 case of either a staff member or resident). There were 13 care homes affected last week. The latest ‘outbreak’ (2+ cases) in a residential care setting was reported in one home – down one.

Cases among children: In the seven days up to 7 March there were 166 children of primary and secondary school age who tested positive across 41 schools, up from 85 children last week.

Deaths: In the ONS data up to 4 March, 466 coronavirus-related deaths were recorded as having occurred for York residents (281 in hospital, 144 in care homes, 33 at home/elsewhere and eight in a hospice). That’s up two on the previous week. The number of deaths per 100,000 of population in York is 220.8 – which is lower than the national average of 281.7.

Covid bed occupancy: As at 15 March, there were 156 confirmed Covid-19 patients in General and Acute beds at York Hospital – up from 112 the previous week. The peak number was 157 on 19 January 2021. There were two confirmed Covid-19 patients in the Intensive Treatment Unit, up two. The peak number for people in ITU was 19 on 10 May 2020.

Long Covid:  The Post-Acute Covid-19 model currently predicts that in York, in the three month period from 1 March to 31 May 2022, there will be 3,840 new cases of post-acute Covid (aka Long Covid), of which 810 will require services.

Vaccinations aged 16+: As at 16 March, 158,791 York residents have had the first dose of the vaccine (89.1% of people aged 16+); 152,273 have had both doses (85.4%); and 126,895 have received the booster vaccine (71.2%).

Vaccinations aged 12-15: As at 16 March, 5,925 York residents in this age group have had the first dose of the vaccine (70.7%); and 3,146 have had both doses of the vaccine (37.6%).

A further 269 coronavirus cases were confirmed in York today (Wednesday, 16 March).

That takes the cumulative case total to 57,678 – giving an overall infection rate of 27,334 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 1,594 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – up 530 (49.8%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 625.1 new cases per 100,000 people (1,319 cases in the week to 12 March). It was 586.2 yesterday.

The English national average is 580.2, the Yorkshire and Humber average is 409.1.

There have been three coronavirus deaths in the City of York Council area in the last seven days (up two).
