He took the seat from Conservative Julian Sturdy, who has held the seat since it was created in 2010.

After being re-elected as MP for York Central, Labour’s Rachael Maskell said: “The Conservative government brought this country to its knees, but today the country has raised their voices, and they’ve raised their hope in a Labour government which will serve this nation, repair the damage and make sure that we restore our country with the pride that we have and the services that we cherish so much…
“I want you all to take part in the future of our country, to ensure that we do build the services that we need, build the housing that this city is desperate for.
“We build our NHS as a strong public service, 76 years old today, as we celebrate the NHS birthday, as we sort out our schools and as we nationalise many of our services – building great British energy and renationalising our railway.

The leader of Reform UK Nigel Farage has finally become an MP at the eighth time of trying.
Mr Farage has won the Clacton seat with 21,225 votes. The Conservative runner up, Giles Watling, got 12,820, giving a majority of 8,405.
