Tom Gordon, the first Liberal Democrat to win a seat on Friday morning, said his party are “back across the country” after he beat the Conservatives by more than 8,000 votes in Harrogate and Knaresborough.
“The first brick in the blue wall has come crashing down in Harrogate & Knaresborough tonight,” he posted to X, formerly Twitter.
“A huge thank you to the entire team who have worked endlessly for this result… we are back in Harrogate & Knaresborough, back in Yorkshire, back in the North, and back across the country.”

Lee Anderson has become the Reform Party’s first MP.
He has won the Ashfield seat in a 34% swing from the Conservatives with.

But the Lib Dems ran Labour close, coming within 200 votes.
