A power cut to a popular roadside service has hit businesses there today.
It was at Bilbrough Top this afternoon.
McDonald’s and the BP garage were among those forced to close.
A power cut is affecting hundreds of properties in Easingwold.
It has left school the Outwood Academy without power, water and internet access. Parents have been invited to collect their children early.
The George Hotel posted this message at 2.24pm: “The George is currently affected by a major power cut in Easingwold.
“We are able to accommodate our hotel guests and will be offering a limited range of drinks at the bar. However, please note we are operating on a cash-only basis.
“At this time, it is unclear when power will be restored. We are contacting our evening guests by mobile to inform them of the situation.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to serve food this evening, as our kitchen relies on electricity not only for cooking but also to ensure a safe working environment for our team.”
This was the scene in Acomb, York, earlier.
A huge section of tree had crashed to the ground at the junction of Beech Grove and Rosedale Avenue.
Fortunately no one was hurt. Here’s a video of the aftermath by Paul Thompson:
City of York Council has a team of people there clearing up the tree fall.
There’s a fault with the signalling system on the railway line between York and Malton.
TransPennine Express says that some lines are blocked.
It said on Twitter: “Train services running through these stations may be delayed. Disruption is expected until 1.15pm.”
This is the latest update from Northern Powergrid. Around 14,000 of its customers have been hit by cuts so far.
There are four main areas hit by power cuts in North Yorkshire this morning according to Northern Powergrid.
The electricity is off in many homes in and around Strensall and Flaxton.
Cuts were reported at around 9am and an engineer is said to be on their way.
There are widespread blackouts around Thirsk too. They were reported at 8.43am. Again an engineer is on their way.
Another cluster of cuts can be seen north of Snainton. Reported at 7.32am, engineers have discovered the problem and are working to fix it, says Northern Powergrid.
And the Northallerton area is hard hit by the cuts too. Many properties to the north east of the town centre and further up the A19 are without power.
Work to restore these areas is underway.
