Power cuts latest

There are a number of power cuts in North Yorkshire this morning.
Northallerton looks particularly badly hit with hundreds of homes and businesses affected. Northern Powergrid engineers are working on the problem.
There are also blackouts north-east of Pickering.
Northern Powergrid says: “We’re experiencing challenging weather conditions across our regions.
“Strong wind impacts our ability to work at height, and it can take longer to get the power back on. Until we have safely assessed the extent of any damage, we are unable to provide estimated restoration times.”
“We will provide further updates when we have more certainty as to when we can restore power.”
Storm Éowyn – A66 and A19 Tees Flyover closed
National Highways said the A66 between the A1M in North Yorkshire and the A19 Tees Flyover have been closed by Storm Éowyn.
‘Do not travel’ warnings affecting rail passengers from York

Here are the latest from the train companies.
LNER
“There will be no trains operating north of Newcastle in either direction on Friday 24 January and no LNER services operating within Scotland.
“Services north of York will also be subject to short-notice cancellation and significant delay due to weather-related speed restrictions. Where trains are cancelled or routes are closed, we will be unable to provide road transport due to the expected severity of the weather.
“As a result, we are advising customers not to travel to and from stations north of York on Friday 24 January.
“If your journey is within the southern part of our route and is wholly south of York [for example, between London King’s Cross and Peterborough], please note that trains may still be disrupted and we strong recommend checking for updates before you travel.”
TransPennine Express
“Due to predicted gale-force winds across the North of England and Scotland brought by Storm Eowyn, we are urging customers not to travel between the following locations on Friday 24 January:
- Manchester/Liverpool and Scotland
- York, Newcastle and Edinburgh
“In addition, we are advising customers to avoid travelling, unless absolutely essential, between the following locations:
- Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York
“Customers will be able to use tickets booked for travel on Friday 24 January on Thursday 23 January and up to Tuesday 28 January.”
Northern
“Due to the severe weather many routes are closed today with no alternatives in place and we are advising DO NOT TRAVEL.
“This is not a decision taken lightly, safety for our customers and staff is always our priority. On routes where trains are running, we expect disruption and have reduced the number of trains running so we advise against travelling if possible.
“If you have a ticket dated for today, you can use it over the weekend and up to Tuesday 28 January. If you are travelling today, you may travel at any time. If you decide not to travel, a full, fee free, refund is available.”
