MP Sir David Davis has met with an NHS official to discuss the future of Goole and District Hospital.

The Goole and Pocklington MP met with Sean Lyons, chair of the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, to discuss the future of healthcare provision at the hospital.

The future of the hospital has been an area of uncertainty for some time amidst fears around the downgrading of services.

Whilst the NHS Trust has confirmed there are no plans to close the hospital, they have said they will review the existing provision on offer at the site.

The trust said: “It is very important that all our services offer safe, high quality care that is cost effective and meets the changing needs of our local communities.”

The meeting between the long standing Conservative MP and Mr Lyons, held on-site at the hospital, focused on the Trust’s review of services and the future provision of healthcare at the site.

Sir David said: “Goole and District Hospital is a vital part of local healthcare provision for Goole, Howden and the surrounding area.

“When waiting lists are long and the Government is pushing for more localised healthcare, the Trust should be expanding services at Goole Hospital, not reducing them.

“Hospitals of similar size across the country manage to provide more, including A&E and better diagnostic services. The Trust should use those examples as a model for future services.

“I want to thank the hundreds of constituents who’ve completed my survey or written to share their experiences. Many have spoken of the difficulties they have faced in accessing care at Goole, and the direct impact further cuts would have.

“Our community deserves proper, local healthcare, not longer waits and longer journeys. I will continue to make sure our community’s voice is heard throughout the ongoing review.

“It was a very useful meeting with Mr Lyons. He appeared to understand all of these points. I am optimistic that he will address them.”

Fears of the hospital being downgraded have led to concerns among residents and even a peaceful protest being held in the town, organised by the Save Goole Hospital Action Group.
