Nearly 200 people attended a recent community engagement event, aimed at updating residents on the progress of the York Central development.

The partners behind the project welcomed 194 local residents to the latest drop-in session, providing an opportunity to learn more about the proposals for one of the UK’s largest regeneration sites.

Organised by McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate, the event took place at York’s historic Guildhall on 31 July. Attendees had the opportunity to meet members of the team and find out more about their proposals.

More than 20 representatives from the development and design teams were on hand throughout the day to answer questions and provide insights into various aspects of the scheme.

Partners from the Railway Museum and Network Rail also attended to share updates on the museum’s development and plans to replace Wilton Rise footbridge.

Tom Gilman, Managing Director of McLaren Regeneration, said: “This was another great opportunity for us and our partners to meet members of the local community for them to find out more about our plans for York Central.

“We had purposely designed the event in a way that enabled people to learn more about all the different aspects of the development and with support of our design team and other consultants, we were able to successfully field a wide range of questions they had, covering topics from homes and jobs, architecture and accessibility to social value and sustainability, as well as everything in between.

“We were also really pleased to see attendance increase from our last event demonstrating an increasing interest in the project.”

This event formed part of an ongoing and regular community engagement programme, following previous activities last year and a drop-in event held in February.

Over 8,000 households in the area received leaflets inviting them to the session, alongside a strong campaign across social media and PR channels to increase awareness and attendance.

For those unable to attend, the display boards from the event can be viewed here.
