A York art school has launched a fundraiser to create a new community art studio – with some incredible prizes.
The project aims to establish a community art studio with professional tuition in painting and drawing.
The new studio will be for students from York, Selby, Leeds, Harrogate, Hull and beyond – and be available to community groups such as choirs, book clubs and charities.

Andres Jaroslavsky, owner of Corner Studio in York, will be bringing over 30 years of experience in education and deep passion for teaching and artistic expression to the venture.
“After years working as a teacher, I opened Corner Studio in York in 2010,” said Andres.
“My painting ‘Madres’ won the Yorkshire Art Journal competition, and I have had the pleasure of teaching painting, drawing, and life drawing in various locations over the past 12 years.
“Now, it’s time to create a larger, purpose-built studio to serve our growing community.”
In January 2024, Andres purchased a disused chapel in Stillingfleet, on the outskirts of York, to transform it into a state-of-the-art community art studio.
But the new space needs essential infrastructure such as a septic tank, water connection, rewiring, storage space for materials, toilet, a kitchenette, and more.
The new studio will also incorporate a free community arts library, to ensure resources are available for all.
To raise the necessary funds for the building project, Corner Studio is holding a draw with some exciting prizes:
- 1st prize – Free weekly art lessons in painting, drawing, or life drawing for a year. All materials included, plus complimentary teas and coffees
- 2nd prize – An original painting
- 3rd prize – A custom portrait of your chosen subject
- 4th prize – A golden ticket! One of ten places for an exclusive preview at the new premises, with a VIP workshop at the newly opened studio. All materials included, plus a lunch and concert
- 5th prize – Breakfast for two at ALMA on Coppergate, plus dinner for two at Il Paradiso Del Cibo on Walmgate
Andres invites everyone to participate in this exciting draw and support the creation of a dynamic Art Studio.
“This project is about more than just art; it’s about building a creative hub that fosters community spirit and provides opportunities for artistic expression for all.”
