More details have emerged about a new restaurant set to open on Coney Street in York.

YorkMix reported in February that a former shop is to be transformed into the Blue Heaven Lounge Grill House and Bar.

Work to fit out the new venue is now underway, and the owners have applied for an alcohol licence.

The Blue Heaven at number 32 Coney Street will operate over two floors. The ground floor will house the main restaurant, with 36 covers, a new bar area, salad bar and hot and cold buffet display cabinets.

On the first floor will be a food preparation area, as well as the customer toilets.

The plans, now approved by City of York Council, also include al fresco dining.

“The rear courtyard is proposed to be used as part of the restaurant’s dining area and will provide an opportunity to restore this area,” planning documents state.

“The current condition of the courtyard is overgrown and neglected, and it can be viewed from neighbouring listed buildings such Judge’s Court which is currently used as a hotel.

“The potential beneficial impact of improving this area would not only see the use of the area by the public domain, but also could be an asset to the neighbouring property in that it would enhance their respective views and overall setting.”

Blue Heaven York Ltd is owned by Islam Elzokm and Elsayed Habaka. They have applied for an alcohol licence for 11am to 10pm daily, with the venue shutting an hour later.

No 32 Coney Street is a Grade II listed building which dates back to 1600. It was home to a china shop from 1861 until 1929. More recently it operated as a branch of The Perfume Shop.

The Blue Heaven Lounge will be only yards away from the Hard Rock Café, set to be housed in the former TKMaxx.
