New digital customer information screens could be coming to York Station under plans lodged to replace ones currently in service.
Plans from operator LNER would see the new screens installed in five locations across the station site.
The operator’s application lodged with City of York Council stated the works would make facilities for passengers better while respecting the historic building and improving access on one platform.
Plans for the new screens come as part of improvements and upgrades LNER is currently making across its network of stations.
The application stated the new Infotec LED displays would replace existing screens with more modern versions with enhanced features.

New screens would be installed in place of existing ones in the station’s portico entrance hall, its main concourse and by platforms five and six and six and seven.
Screens above the footbridge linking the main station building to platforms 10 and 11 would also be replaced if the plans are approved.
LNER has also proposed moving screens on platform five from their current location by a lift further south.
Plans stated the current screen, which is mounted on a standalone post, had created a pinch point for passengers between the lift shaft and platform edge.
New fibre optic cables would also be installed as part of the works but they would be fitted along existing routes in the station’s electrics network.
Plans stated the installation of the screens would pave the way for a dynamic environment that honours the station’s rich history while looking forward to the future.
The application stated: “By integrating modern accessibility features into the existing framework, LNER is ensuring that the enhancements do not detract from the unique character and heritage of the station.
“Instead, they complement its historical significance, creating a seamless blend of past and present.
“This forward-thinking strategy reflects a commitment to fostering an inclusive atmosphere for all passengers.”
