Councillor Tracey Simpson Laing, Cabinet member for Health, Housing and Adult Social Services, and Chair of the York Health and Wellbeing Board, has welcomed today’s announcement (8 August) from the NHS and the Local Government Association about a new joint fund for local health and social care.
“The creation of a single pooled budget for health and social care (the Integration Transformation Fund – ITF) will help us provide a seamless link between health and care services in York,” Coun Simpson Laing said.
“Since the creation of the city’s Health and Wellbeing Board earlier this year we have made significant inroads in reducing the historical divides between health and social care, but there is still a lot to do, particularly if we are to tackle the pressures of an ageing population and reducing national and local budgets.
“We will continue to work with health colleagues in the city to plan how we can best use the ITF to ensure that the funding makes a real, tangible improvement to the care and support people in York receive.”
