A new, free What’s On listing for people with special needs has been welcomed as an extra social resource to strengthen York’s communities.
Learning disability charity Netbuddy, has launched the nation’s first listing of events and activities for parents and carers with children or family and friends with special needs.
This complements City of York Council’s own information scheme which allows parents or carers of disabled children and young people to register for local updates and also receive a free Max Card which gives them discounted access to a huge range of activities across the UK.
In addition, the council’s website adds to the information offered to parents and carers of disabled children.
Councillor Linsay Cunningham-Cross, City of York Council’s Cabinet Member for Crime and Stronger Communities, said: “Giving people of all abilities access to clubs, groups, events and activities is vital to enriching their lives as well as helping them actively participate in and contribute to the life of their community.
“Local communities, groups and clubs can upload inclusive events for free here – there’s plenty of opportunity to build up the York offer on this website.
“With Government cuts compromising local authorities’ ability to provide day services, a website like this is a vital resource for those with special needs and sits perfectly alongside the council’s Family Information Service.”
