A York café is set to close and be turned into a flat.
Plans have been submitted to turn independent coffee shop Busk, on Fishergate, into a two-bedroom apartment.
The planning application says: “Due to the current pandemic, the café use will shortly cease and whilst it has been on the market for several months there has been no interest from a potential operator.”
Under the plans the rear shopfront to Sandringham Street will be removed and replaced with matching brickwork and obscure glass windows and a door.
But the Fishergate shopfront will be retained “so that it could return to become a retail unit some time in the future if Fishergate becomes a retail destination again”.
New venue
Meanwhile on Goodramgate, an empty shop unit is set to become a new café.
What was Super News And Booze could soon be Bubble Meow – supplying “special Asian waffles and bubble tea together with small savoury Asian hot sandwiches containing chicken mixes and tofu,” a planning applications states.
“There will also be a small element of supplemental fried products to go with the above.”
There will be enough room in the café for eight to ten customers.
Takeaway food and drink will also be available.
After the newsagents closed, the shop front was remodelled in anticipation of it being re-let.
