Police have tonight (Sunday) issued an update on the body found in a North Yorkshire river.
Police were called to the River Nidd near Harrogate shortly before 8am on Saturday.
This evening a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Further to the recovery of a man’s body from the River Nidd in Bilton, Harrogate yesterday morning , the man has now been identified and his next of kin have been informed.
“Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of his death.”
On Saturday lunchtime police revealed that their officers, along with ambulance and fire crews were in attendance after the body was found close to the Nidd Viaduct in Bilton.
A spokesperson said: “The body is that of a white man, believed to be in his 40s. He is yet to be identified.
“We would ask that the public please avoid the area.”
