This York thief has been banned from shops across the city after his latest conviction for shoplifting.
Gary Maddison, 65, from Vyner Street, has been a thorn in the side of many retailers.
His latest shoplifting conviction came at York Magistrates’ Court last month.
Magistrates imposed a Criminal Behaviour Order on Maddison.
It means he is banned from entering any premises from which he is barred from entering in writing. And he is specifically prevented from entering:
- Co-op on Union Terrace and Clarence Street
- Claire’s Accessories on Parliament Street
- Sainsbury’s on Piccadilly and Micklegate
- McDonald’s on Blake Street
- Tesco on Piccadilly
- HMV on Coney Street
- Caffe Nero on King’s Square
- Primark in Coppergate
- Flying Tiger in Coppergate.
The order lasts for two years, until April 2026.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Breaching the order’s conditions is a criminal offence. Any breaches should be reported to us on 101, via our website, or 999 in an emergency.
“Anyone who steals from shops in our city must expect to be dealt with robustly.
“This Criminal Behaviour Order is now in place to prevent Maddison causing further disruption to city centre retailers.”
