Detectives hunting a man wanted for a violent assault at a pub in York have renewed their appeal for the public to help locate him.

Officers would like to speak to Ryan MacLeod, aged 21, of Tuke Avenue, York, after a 32-year-old local man was attacked at the Castle Howard Ox, on Townend Street, on Saturday 10 November 2012.

The victim needed a large number of stitches to a facial injury after he was assaulted by a number of men in the pub’s smoking area in the early hours of the morning.

Officers have arrested and bailed three men aged 18, 21, and 24 in connection with the incident, however MacLeod has so far managed to evade arrest.

MacLeod is also wanted for recall to prison. Poor behaviour and failure to keep appointments with his supervising officer at the Probation Service mean he has breached the terms of his release licence and he must return to custody.

He was released on licence from HMP Northallerton in June 2012 after serving 18 months of a four year sentence for GBH with intent.

Officers believe that MacLeod could have travelled to the Manchester area and are urging residents there and in York to keep an eye out for him.

Detective Inspector Dave Kirby, of York police, said: “Ryan MacLeod knows we are looking for him and he knows that he is breach of his prison release licence. By evading arrest he is only making the consequences worse for himself when we do catch up with him.

“I am appealing to the public to be vigilant and let us know if they spot MacLeod, as not only does he have to go back to prison but he has questions to answer about another offence as well.

“I would also like to appeal to anyone who may be helping MacLeod to avoid arrest. It is an offence to help a wanted person to evade the police and you too could be arrested if you are assisting him.”

Anyone who can help officers to locate Ryan MacLeod is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for York police.

If you wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
