Residents accept invitation to visit new customer centre

Wed 6 Feb, 2013 by Press Release

Issued by City of York Council

City of York Council’s new offices on Station Rise opened its doors for the first time at last weekend’s Residents Festival and drew over 1,700 visitors, while the Mansion House attracted the highest ever number of residents during this special event which saw the start of a major new consultation.

Councillor Sonja Crisp, Cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “For the first time ever the new City of York Council offices and customer centre were open for residents to step inside. 1,734 residents took a look inside the creatively-refurbished and extended Grade II listed railway station, which now houses the new customer contact centre and specially-commissioned pieces of public art.

“A stalwart of the annual Residents Festival, the Mansion House welcomed 1,560 guests over the weekend, the most ever guests in the 18 years it’s been participating in the event. Visitors were invited to step into the kitchens and admire the largest collection of civic silver outside London.”

At both locations, visitors took the opportunity to take part in a new consultation with residents on their views of tourism in the city on how York’s position as a world class tourist destination can be further developed.

The Have Your Say On Tourism consultation is available for completion before Monday 18 February. Questionnaires can be picked up from York Explore or the Visitor Information centre where they can be returned. Alternatively it can be filled in online here.

Residents Festival offers free and discounted entry to many of the attractions that bring so many tourists to the city, as a way of saying thank you to the residents of York for being so welcoming to the seven million tourists who visit the city every year. It is organised by Visit York, one of the UK’s most successful destination management organisations which is supported by City of York Council.
