Tidy primary school pupils in York will be helping put their neighbourhood in order together with residents’ associations and City of York Council.
Year 6 pupils from Burton Green Primary School and Year 5 pupils from Clifton Green Primary School will once again join forces with Clifton Residents’ Association and the council to take part in what has become an annual litter pick at Ashton Park and the surrounding areas.
The 60 pupils will help make light work of any litter in the area on 20 March. The community litter pick will start at Ashton Park and move on to the surrounding areas to help make a Smarter York.
Councillor David Levene, Cabinet member for Environmental services, said: “Litter picks are a good way to bring different members of the community together while benefitting everyone in the area. It is important that young people are encouraged to take pride in the area where they live and help to keep it looking smart.”
Smarter York aims to help maintain a clean, green and safe environment for York. The initiative encourages and works with residents to create attractive neighbourhoods with a real sense of community and to tackle the things that can spoil our neighbourhoods for example littering, graffiti or dog fouling.
