The worst of Storm Ciara may be over, but it’s still pretty gusty out there – and there’s some riverside flooding.

Although very much open for business, York is affected by the weather.

York’s flood defences are holding up well. As at 9.35am today (Monday) there are five flood warnings in place in and around the city.

This means ‘flooding is expected – immediate action required’. They are:

  • River Ouse at Linton Lock
  • River Ouse at Naburn Lock
  • River Ouse at York – riverside properties
  • River Ouse at York – Skeldergate and Tower Street
  • River Ouse at York – St George’s Field and Queen’s Staith

The weather has also affected other parts of city life. The city walls are closed today for safety.

Shambles Market is closed too, “so that the team can undertake a full safety evaluation”.

Rowntree Park is also shut due to the high river levels, but the reading café is open.

Generally however the city centre is open and life going on as normal.

Please come and shop as normal in #York, we'll be open for business – flood defences in place to protect the City. https://t.co/cWlkcVwKrI
