A new doughnut and coffee shop will be giving away free doughnuts to 500 customers tomorrow.

The massive giveaway is to celebrate the opening of Project D on Parliament Street tomorrow, Friday 6 October.

This will be the doughnut brand’s first bricks-and-mortar shop – and the first 500 customers to arrive at the store from 11am will receive a free doughnut of their choice, on a first-come-first-served basis.

YorkMix reported earlier this year that it was coming soon.

The store will sell a wide selection of doughnuts, such as the firm’s best-selling ‘Homer’, which is a pink-topped creation inspired by cartoon character Homer Simpson.

Other delicious doughnuts include the ‘Bad Boy’ which is filled with Biscoff spread and dipped in salted caramel icing, and ‘The Best Bueno’ which has half a bueno in the centre and drizzled in swirls of chocolate icing and confetti sprinkles. The brand also do seasonal specials for Halloween and autumn.

It will also sell hand roasted premium roasted coffee and Project D merchandise like hoodies and T-shirts.

Max Poynton, co-founder and marketing director for Project D, said: “We are so excited to be opening our first store in such a fantastic location in one of the UK’s most beautiful cities.

“York holds a special place in our hearts and has been one of the top areas for our online sales and pop-up events since we launched the company.”

Max co-founded Project D with his former school friends Matthew Bond and Jacob Watts in 2018. The business started from a kitchen table, and has gone on to sell its tasty treats online and via kiosks and pop-up events around the UK.

The brand is also very popular on TikTok.

Project D is expecting to open at least three more stores over the next six months, one of which will be at Meadowhall Shopping Centre, in Sheffield.

The move into permanent retail sites was kick-started by a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign earlier this year.

Project D’s creative director, Matthew said: “The York opening is the culmination of everything we’ve been working towards for the past few years. We can’t wait to welcome our new customers.

“We set out to make the world’s best doughnuts, and we are absolutely confident that we’ve done just that.”
