Firefighters in North Yorkshire were called to two separate woodland fires yesterday evening (Friday), both of which are believed to have been started deliberately.

At 8:25 pm, crews from Ripon, Summerbridge, and Colburn responded to reports of a forest fire in Kilburn. The blaze, which covered an area of around 15 x 5 metres, is thought to have been lit deliberately after a candle was found nearby.

Firefighters set up a water relay and used knapsack sprayers, beaters, and hose reel jets to bring the flames under control and extinguish the fire.

Shortly afterwards, crews discovered a second fire nearby in the same forest, also believed to have been started deliberately. Crew extinguished it using knapsack sprayers and wildfire tools.

Earlier in the evening, at 7:13 pm, Summerbridge firefighters had also been called to a separate incident in Kilburn, where a fire had started in a car park.
