A key road is shut due to overrunning roadworks in York this morning (Thursday) – and it is causing major aggravation to motorists.

The A64 Westbound at the A19 Fulford interchange remains closed. A detour is in operation via the exit and entry slip roads.

But by 9am Highways England were reporting tailbacks of 3.3 miles.

Queues are building up all the way to the Hull Road junction on the A64. The AA estimates delays of 47 minutes and increasing.

Overnight roadworks were due to have finished by 6am, but have ran on due to the new Tarmac waiting to cool and set in the warm weather.
