A man was threatened with a knife at one of York’s busiest junctions in broad daylight.

Now police are urging anyone who saw what happened or has video footage to contact them.

A member of the public who saw the incident at the junction of Gillygate and Bootham callled police at around 12.30pm yesterday (Thursday).

A man threatened another man with a knife, then got in a car which drove off.

The victim ran from the scene and appeared uninjured.

By 1.04pm, specialist operations officers had traced the vehicle and intercepted it in the Seacroft area of Leeds.

A 17-year-old boy and a 59-year-old man, both from Leeds, were inside. They were arrested and taken into custody.

Officers found large knife and suspected cannabis paraphernalia inside the car.

Police are appealing for the following people to get in touch:

  • The victim
  • Any passing drivers who may have captured the incident or the victim running away on their dashcam
  • Any witnesses who saw the incident unfold or the victim running away
  • Any businesses or residents who may have captured the incident or victim on CCTV or doorbell cameras.

Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of affray, possessing an offensive weapon, and being concerned in the supply of class B drugs.

The 59-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of fraud.

Both have been given conditional police bail to allow for further enquiries to be carried out. Their bail conditions prevent them from entering North Yorkshire.
