A councillor made an unfortunate slip while talking about government cuts visited on City of York Council at a meeting.

Leader of the Green Party group Cllr Andy D’Agorne was highlighting the impact of funding cuts to public health – including health visitors, sexual health services and stop smoking support – when he accidentally added another letter to the word ‘cut’.

Cllr D’Agorne, speaking after Thursday’s meeting, said it was a genuine mistake and language that he would never normally use, adding it was an error that he had not anticipated when reading through the speech in advance.

He added: “I would say that I would never use such language as it is particularly offensive to women.”
