Waterstones have announced they’re opening a second store in York.
The major book retailer revealed on Instagram today (Friday) that it will be opening a new bookshop at Monks Cross Shopping Park in York.
It will open in October 2025, with an exact opening date yet to be announced.
The new shop will run concurrently alongside Waterstones York on Coney Street. The high street location has been open since April 2014.
Waterstones wrote on Instagram that “our Booksellers are very excited to meet you all very soon” and that more updates will be coming soon.
Waterstones was sold to private equity group Elliott Management in 2018. Its boss James Daunt told the FT earlier this year that 12 new stores were opened last year and he planned to “do that or more” this year.
It’s not the only new bookshop coming to York soon, with Toppings set to open the UK’s largest independent book shop in the city centre.
The initial autumn 2025 opening has been pushed to spring 2026 after plans were thrown into doubt by council officials.
The plans have now been approved.
